I never watched The Honeymooners when I was little, but I always wanted to, because even when I was young I wanted to watch all of the TV shows ever. I have seen every episode of I Love Lucy multiple times, and this show evokes the same sort of feeling in me now even though it is not familiar at all. Perhaps it is the touch of vaudevillian throwback that much of the comedy shares. When I watch so-called “Classic TV” now, I feel like I am in school studying expired jokes only for history’s sake. I can say “Oh yes, I can see how that is supposed to be funny, but bad modern TV has taken that same joke and reused it to ruination, rather than studying what made it funny and trying to update or vary on the underlying concept.”
