This is an interesting departure from the theory of Columbo as conscience. The person who did it has a brain aneurysm that causes memory loss, and she never confronts the fact that she killed her husband. This could be why Columbo seems so uneasy and constantly says he has a problem with the case throughout the episode, contrary to his usual role as nagging conscience with “one last thing.”
